Woolworths Everyday Money Reloadable Prepaid MasterCard ®
I've found a simple way to introduce my 18 year old to carrying 'plastic', using a Woolworths Everyday Money Reloadable Prepaid MasterCard ®.
Would be useful also for making online purchases, and you can only spend what's loaded on your card.
I'm about to try the Woolworths card (I shop there anyway), and this card will be handy when he goes to schoolies week, to top up with petrol (using ePump at the bowser). If necessary, we can even 'bail him out' from home if he runs short of his own money that's been loaded onto the card, by topping it up online!
There are fees (of course), but they're worth the convenience and security of carrying a card rather than a lot of cash. The card costs $9.95 to purchase, with the choice of two fee options, so take a look at the finer print.
Some of the benefits:
- Load at any Woolworths, Safeway and BIG W store, online through BPAY(R) or use Direct Credit to transfer money to your card or have your employer deposit your salary straight to your card.
- Everywhere MasterCard Prepaid cards are accepted electronically worldwide - pay for groceries, bills, petrol, restaurants, hotels, flights, concert tickets etc
- Online shopping with security
- Get cash from ATMs worldwide
- MasterCard PayPass - Just Tap & GoTM for purchases $100 and under where you see the MasterCardPayPassTM symbol
- Budget and track spending online for yourself and your kids
- Protection of MasterCard's Zero Liability Policy
Here's some reviews from www.productreview.com.au on this particular debit card. If you're taking a look at the Product Review website, we'd really appreciate your review of Aussie School Shop!

Did some more searching and decided on a Westpac Student package, including a no fee everyday account with a Debit Mastercard attached, plus a reward saver account with no fees. Our local branch were efficient in setting up the account. Commonwealth Bank also have packages designed for Youths & Students.
